Search and Destroy

We Americans love to build our heroes, and we love to tear them down and, of late, it seems we're far better at the the destruction of them than aspiring to what they represent. Perhaps that is merely a reflection of our age of impermanence where we hold on to only that and those of immediate value and productivity. Why should our heroes be any different?
