Strange Times

The old proverb “May you live in interesting times.” springs to mind which is often interpreted as both a blessing and a curse. Well, our times are interesting for sure and I suppose we all, after any number of years, believe that we live in strange times simply because so much happens that we don’t expect. Did anyone thirty years ago, outside of a narrow band of scientists, believe that climate change would so quickly rival nuclear holocaust as an existential threat to civilization? Did anyone ten years ago see the rise of Trumpism as a cult that would rock the constitutional foundation of our republic?
