Trump Doesn't Have To Be The One

There are simply too many questions regarding Trump’s competence and fitness for the presidency to allow the GOP nomination process to proceed as it is now. Trump does not have to run for reelection and the Republican party is not obligated to nominate him but there is currently a clear sense of inevitability in the nomination process that only serves Trump’s interest and not that of the GOP or America at large.

Here are a few important steps to be taken:

• A face saving exit path for his supporters should be built

• All Americans should demand the GOP primary be held in states like Arizona and South Carolina where they are currently being stopped to help Trump

• The groundwork should be laid for an open GOP convention so that a viable alternative to Trump can be nominated if needed
